This display is one of twelve large identical Outdoor Electronic Variable Message Signs supplied to Shetland Ferry Services for use at their ferry terminals on the mainland and on their adjacent Shetland Islands.
The Ferry Captains personally control the live information displayed on each sign remotely via lap-top computers on the Ferry Control Bridge, allowing them to show any alterations to the schedules or destinations as weather and ferry conditions dictate.
