Transportation

For the past 15 years Scrimsign has supplied and installed our Electronic Information Display products into the following Transportation sectors:


  • FERRY TERMINALS / SEA PORTS
  • AIRPORTS
  • BUS STATIONS
  • RAILWAYS
  • TRUNK ROAD

The primary applications have been for Passenger Information such as Arrival and Departure Timetables, Delay / On-Time Status, Pricing, Passenger / Vehicle Control Information and General Information.

Shetland Council

This sign is one of 12 large identical outdoor Electronic Variable Message signs supplied to Shetland Ferry Services for use at their ferry terminals on the mainland and in all their main ferry terminals in all their adjacent Shetland Islands.

The ferry captains personally remotely control the live information displayed on each sign via lap-top computers on the Ferry Control Bridge, concerning any alterations to schedules and destinations as weather and ferry conditions permit.


Caledonian MacBrayne

This sign is one of 20 off large identical outdoor Electronic Variable Message signs supplied and installed by Scrimsign, and in daily use now for almost 8 years, for Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry Services for use at their Ferry Terminals throughout the Western islands and Mainland of Scotland.

The local Ferry Terminal Managers personally control the live information displayed on each sign concerning the alterations to schedules and destinations as weather and ferry conditions permit.


Nexus

This giant Skyline visible 22 metre long circular scrolling MOVING MESSAGE DISPLAY was designed / manufactured / and installed by Scrimsign for NEXUS of Newcastle for the dome of their new H.Q. building for the Millenium celebrations on 31st december 1999.

It has successfully been in continual use ever since, being used for a variety of scrolling animated marketing and publicity messages to the General Public including display of Time and Temperature.

Caledonian MacBrayne

This 2 line variable message / quad flashing lantern, Trunk Road Sign was commissioned for Caledonian MacBrayne at Glendaruel in Argyll, to provide passengers with early warning information, in the event that the Portavadie / Tarbert Ferry 3 miles ahead on difficult single track roads, was seriously delayed or not running at all.

Control of the sign was by remote staff with Ferry Terminal computers, via GSM Radio Modem.

Shetland Council

This sign is controlled by any one of the ferry captains, live from the bridge of their ferry via their lap-top linked to the sign by GSM Radio Modem.

The sign itself is located on a main highway on the approach road to Lerwick the main ferry port in Shetland, to advise passengers of any delays or alterations to the departure or arrival of any one of the three ferries which operate out of Lerwick.

Important changes to the ferry schedules are highlighted by Amber Flashing beacons at top and bottom of the sign, in addition to the text advising change and reason behind schedule alteration.


Qualter Hall

This British Rail engine driver directional Indicator is one of 50 units designed and manufactured by Scrimsign for use at the track side points to advise drivers of routes.

Several of the 50 Indicators were double sided and each side permitted the direction of the arrow to indicate left, right or straight ahead.


First plc

This "Classic" wall mounting Information Display is one of 15 units supplied and installed into "FIRST" Bus Depots throughout the Glasgow area.

Each Display has 8 lines each of 20 characters per line of Tri-colour Text, and the displays can show up to 20 sequentially cycling pages of information.

Important Shift Change Over, or particular bus Technical Operating information can quickly be sent to the signs for display from remote computers located within the offices, for the benefit of staff / drivers or for general network efficiency.

Caledonian MacBrayne

These two Variable Message Signs were custom designed, supplied and and installed into the new Caledonian MacBrayne Ferry Terminal at Oban for Passenger Information and Control at the twin Ferry Departure Gates.

Various fixed messages were pre-programmed for the various stages of Ferry departure e.g. NOW BOARDING, and all possible ferry destinations e.g. BARRA. Selection and Control of relevant messages were by local staff via custom programmed Wall Mounting compact controllers.


CALEDONIAN MACBRAYNE

Here we have a digital double sided 7 segment clock display on the Isle of Harris, the clock is updated via its own satellite GPS receiver insuring very accurate time.

Edinburgh Airport

This Wall Mounting Interactive Kiosk is one of 7 units custom designed for use within Edinburgh Airport.

With a very simple A.T.M. style of layout and simple button interface, it permitted passengers to easily and quickly browse through all Destinations and Flight Carriers, in addition to showing terminal maps highlighting Toilets, eating areas and departure / arrival locations.
